Susan Harahap is BC’s ONLY Health and Safety Consultant with extensive experience and expertise in Healthcare.

She began her career in healthcare providing training services to front line staff in Acute and Long-Term Care Settings working with both Providence and Vancouver Coastal Health Authorities.  Working within the diverse environments of Hospitals allowed her to gain experience on all protocols that apply to Surgical, Burn and TB Units as well as the Emergency Departments and all other varying levels of care.

Susan brought these high standards into her next opportunity and took it upon herself to rebuild the organizations foundational policies and built the highest standards of Infection Control, Patient/Resident Handling, Food Safety, MSIP and OH&S into all Departments including Direct Care, Nursing, Recreation, Human Resources, Housekeeping, Food Handling and Maintenance.  As she continued to educate herself on the unique needs of Healthcare, she also recognized the deficiencies in the OH&S programs in place at the worksites she visited.  Over time, she built a WorkSafeBC and COR Compliant Program that proactively addressed the unique challenges and barriers at each different work location and became her organization and clients expert on all aspects of OH&S within Long Term Care, Assisted Living, Independent Living, Home/Community Care and Group Homes for Adults with Mental Disabilities.

OH&S Program Development

To be effective, an Occupational Health and Safety Program needs to be fully customized to your unique worksite and must be built collaboratively with all Workers, Supervisors and Managers.  A strong Health and Safety Program isn’t built in an office by one person making unilateral decisions based on their impressions of best practice, it is built with continuous input from the entire Team on hazard identification, risk assessments, procedures, training and all specific prevention efforts.

REC begins with an unbiased Needs Assessment and Collaborative Action Plan, and will work with your team through each required element of your OH&S Program to build the most effective injury prevention program possible for your specific workplace.  There is no ‘one size fits all’ program, thus if you are a multi-worksite organization, aspects of your program will need to be customized to suit each of your worksites to address their specific hazards.
